My name is Margaret Russ. I am married with six children – a true Brady Bunch with three boys and three girls and we are a blended family. I have a Bachelor of Social Work from Ryerson University (1997) and a Master of Social Work from York University (2003) and I am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers and a member of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS)
I look forward to assisting you along your life journey at this time. My goal as your therapist is simple: help you learn and grow as the person you want to be. How we do that together is up to you.
I provide a warm and nonjudgmental atmosphere for you to speak freely about yourself and your life experiences. I provide feedback that will give you insight into what is troubling you. My modality of treatment is primarily person-centered, and solution-focused. My aim is to equip you with the tools you need to solve your current problems/issues, and be better able to solve future ones independently as well. I also incorporate cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness, relaxation and stress reduction into my sessions for clients who want to work on replacing negative thoughts and behaviors with more positive approaches for managing what is troubling them.
Seeking help is a scary idea! But facing the problem(s) you are having difficulty managing, with a trained professional, can bring a sense of self that is its own reward.
My expertise is wide and varied. From working with clients who have struggle with depression or anxiety, reproductive health challenges, relationship breakdowns, LGBTQ+ issues and adoption issues. I’ve worked with adults just like you seeking help with parenting issues, communication & relationships (romantic, familial, social & professional), and even those seeking simpler life changes like improved physical health, poor sleep hygiene, wanting healthier eating habits and even those wanting to stop smoking. I am happy to work with clients who are facing life issues no matter what they are. My expertise is in working with adults teens and children. I also have experience working in child protection for six years to let you know, with many diverse backgrounds. And If an issue goes beyond my abilities I am happy to work with you within my limitations until you find a new therapist and safe pace to continue your work and growth.
I look forward to being your social worker. Together, we will discuss you, your problems and challenges as well as your goals and plans. Your sessions with me are all about YOU!
